Good evening, everyone! I've been looking over the FAQ for a while now, looking for things that may be outdated, when something occurred to me. When I created Aterat, I instated a hard character limit of 3 (and increased it to 4) so as to keep the game from not growing too quickly or getting out of hand. As the game has gone on, I think that may have changed, but I'd like to know what you think before I open it up! Basically, if we're all in agreement, I'll lift the limit of 4 characters and, as long as players are able to do things with all of them each month (with no hard activity requirement), then that will be fine. Just use the poll below to let me know!

Should we do away with hard character limits?

State of the Game: February

As January turns to February, it seems as though the snows are coming to an end. Temperatures are still such that what now has fallen remains upon the ground, but nothing new seems to be falling from the sky, and the skies are clear and crisp. Yes that means no more memory crystals will be found among snowdrifts or unceremoniously falling upon the unsuspecting's heads.

What that means for the citizenry is what seems to be a collective movement toward spring. In many places in the market, there are deep discounts on nonperishable goods, citizens are cleaning out their attics (and hiring strong outsiders to help when they need it), and in general, there is just an air of freshness about the place.

The Month of Cherishment

Throughout the month, you may notice shops throughout the city of Aterat have started stocking up on gift products as well. There are small and adorably decorated pastries at the bakery, individually wrapped but kept in pairs; paired rings and necklaces seem to be popular at many jewelers stands, and there are even matching coin purses. It seems if you can dream it up, it comes in a pair. Citizens are abuzz about the month of "Cherishment". They say it encourages others to share with their friends and loved ones how much they mean to them, and is primarily a gift-giving holiday.

Of particular note, citizens point newcomers toward the chocolatier in the Noble district. They speak of it as though it's always been there, but everyone knows until recently, the Noble district has been mostly in ruin...don't they?

This chocolatier sells all sorts of beautiful chocolates, but they specialize in "The Cherished Collection". These boxes, gold-toned and wrapped in shimmering pink ribbons, contains chocolates laced with various potions that result in different, if temporary, effects on the consumers:

- Consumers can only speak the truth for 30 minutes
- It lowers the inhibitions of the consumer (with various effects)
- It inspires in the consumer a deep need to spend time with someone they care for

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! There will not be an organized log for this event, but people are encouraged to post their own!

And for a bit of OOC information: The AC Check-In is still live here and you still have a few days to respond!

January State of the Game | In-Game Event: Crystalline Rain

Temperatures around Aterat and its surroundings remain very low, affording the snows the fell in late December to stick around. While it makes for slushy sidewalks and much shoveling for those who run businesses, it leaves the place charming, and there is certainly no shortage of warm drinks to go around to stave off the chill.

While various investigations into the recent happenings continue apace, things seem to be rather uneventful (at least in a threatening manner) throughout the city and the citizens are in high spirits. The downtime might even be a great time, if you've been feeling the itch of enterprise, to get your own business going!

Remember, if you guys think of a place that could be a fun addition to the city, you can submit it on the Content Submission page! It doesn't have to be a place for your character's homeworld. It could be something that came up in OOC conversation or whatever sparks inspiration!

And for a bit of OOC information:

» The Test Drive is still up, so invite your friends!
» December AC Check-In is live, and will require no activity proof again, because life has been very unkind to just about everyone.

Event; Crystalline Rain: Jan 9 - 15

Throughout the end of December and the beginning of January, snow flurries are common, though the snowfall is never particularly heavy. That will change the evening of the 8th, with heavy snowfall overnight, bringing several inches of fresh snow to blanket the city and the surrounding areas.

Beginning on the 9th, though, a different sort of rain begins to fall. Periodically over the course of the week, brief rains of small crystals of various sizes will fall from the sky. These crystals are no larger than a small coin and shouldn't damage property when they fall, but they do come in a variety of colors and seem to glow with an inner light.

Anyone who picks one up will be treated to a glimpse at the memory contained within. That's right, these crystals house the memories of the other residents of Aterat. They could be as brief as the knowledge of a name, or as involved as a full memory of an event. The memories themselves are as varied as the crystals that fall, and the memories within could be happy or sad, frustrating or elating, but they will involve the emotions of the person they are from. They could also include the information of who it belongs to, but they may also be ambiguous.

You're able to discover as many crystals as you'd like, also, seeing as this strange rain of crystals is lasting a week and there are quite a few memories to go around!

It should also be noted this event is completely voluntary and you need not submit any of your characters' memories if you choose not to. You also can include the stipulation that whoever finds a crystal containing their memories will have no way of knowing from whom it originated. The sky really is the limit!

I encourage everyone to use the post below to share whatever memories they would like to appear in crystals (and to see the tag below for NPC memories they could also stumble upon, free game of course)

If you have any questions, please ask them below!

Happy New Year!
