WELCOME TO ATERAT

Here is our Seventh Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

I. Crash Into Me

Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.

II. What Goes Bump in the Night

It looks like Aterat proper has a spirit problem. Maybe you're seeing specters, hearing disembodied voices, your windows rattle when there's no breeze outside. Maybe there are cold spots in your place of business (or your apartment, which is so much worse). Either way, you're 100% convinced you're haunted. Hopefully, someone else believes you, or maybe you're used to feeling crazy.

III. Into the MirrorVerse?

Through the looking glass in every apartment or other residence lies the MirrorVerse, a place of emotion. More information on this mysterious place can be found here.

IV. Try the Network

The Tell-Phone allows for text, video, and audio transmissions to everyone else who has one. Give it a whirl!

It is up to her. Lauri-Ell knows it's up to Yin, even if Yin doesn't yet.

"Alright then, let's get you to my apartment. This way."

[moonlitrequiem]

She'll figure it out, start to understand her own preferences, that needs go beyond what keeps her alive.

For now, Yin nods again and follows Lauri-Ell, mentally keeping track of the trek. She has a decent idea the direction of the market versus Lauri-Ell's apartment. Now she just needs to learn the direction from her own apartment.

"The good news is that all of the new arrival apartments are in the same square. However they are color coded."

Which will make everything awkward.

Here Yin has a problem. She isn't supposed to just go around telling people about her observer spirit. That was a secret due to her Doll status with the Syndicate. However, Lauri-Ell sounds concerned for her.

She...doesn't want Lauri-Ell to worry for her. Want, do not want - they're unfamiliar things.

"I will ask," Yin settles for telling her. It's not a lie. She will just ask her specter to look for her.

Hardly a problem. Lauri-Ell would just assume that Yin got help. As they approach the apartment buildings she aims for blue where she lives.

"This one is mine. The first floor is communal spaces."

Then there's no issue. Yin would be at ease to know that, though she doesn't seem bothered now.

Yin hasn't been in many apartment complexes, but for the ones she's been in, that seems common.

Slowly, evenly, she asks, "How many floors are you up?"

"I am on A-floor, which means on the second."

She moves to the door of the blue building and opens it up. Come on, Yin, it's time to head in.

"It is very comfortable."

[moonlitrequiem]

"Comfortable...." That is almost a word that feels foreign to her. The comfort of a Doll is to no interest to most people. They don't have to worry about Dolls, after all.

She is ready to try it out. Maybe she will feel comfortable, maybe she will feel nothing.

Once they are inside she moves them to the stairs, heading up with a brief warning that they were coming.

"I am sorry that it is not on the ground floor."

[moonlitrequiem]

"That's okay." She has walked stairs before, she just does it carefully, one hand on the railing to steady herself, foot feeling the distance from the floor to the next stair before it steps down.

She's very comfortable with navigating the world around her, and Lauri-Ell appreciates that. This young woman knows what she needs to do and so didn't need as worried over.

"There will be a landing soon, from there we will go left.

Yin nods her head to show she hears and understands the instructions. If she's relieved to be able to walk straight once more, she doesn't show it, just continues on.

"Alright then, this is our turn," she says before starting down the hall to her door. If only she wasn't at the end of the hall. That was a bad choice for a new friend.

Yin puts up a hand and keeps it touching the wall as she walks. She uses it to guide, but also searches for dips or something that stands out, using little signs like that as a map in her mind as she follows Lauri-Ell.

There are a number of dips from the other doorways, but Lauri-Ell is happy to wait by her own door once she has it unlocked.

"Do you prefer to sit on wooden chairs or plush couches?"

[moonlitrequiem]

Yin's eyebrows dip a little to the question, confused by it.

"Whatever is easiest," she manages to respond, just to answer Lauri-Ell's question.

That doesn't answer it but she doesn't argue.

"Well, here is my door. The kitchen chairs are closer."

[moonlitrequiem]

Despite that, this had been the most talking Yin had done in a very long while.

Yin nods to Lauri-Ell's words. Closest works.

Lauri-Ell walks to the table and pulls out a chair, making sure to drag it to reinforce the sound of it.

"I will start cooking then. If there are questions I can answer, I'd like to answer them for you."

Questions.... Yin is careful as she follows the sound of the chair, clearly graceful with experience of finding her way around, that grace and her slim figure are likely why she doesn't knock anything over or run into anything in the process.

The noise is very helpful - she makes it to the chair and feels it carefully with her hands to figure out where the seat is, and positions herself there. Then she's very quiet.

Questions? She's not used to being treated as though she has autonomy. It confuses her. That confusion alone is a sign she's not thinking like a proper Doll.

But...she does have one, one large concern about all - Hei.

"Do others from our worlds show up here?"

"I have seen instances of it," Lauri-Ell says. "There is one other from my world here, but I do not know him well. But I do not know that it is very common."

There are plenty of people who don't have those connections.

"Are there those from your world that you need protection from?"

[moonlitrequiem]

She shakes her head. No, Yin doesn't need protection from Hei. (She probably does need protection from the Syndicate, but she doesn't know that, not yet.) If anything, she feels something, maybe it is concern for his well-being? Muted as it is, it's hard to tell. Yin also can't just tell other people she works for an organization that sends the team she works for to assassinate people, or about the other people from her team.

But what they are? How should she refer to them? Say as little as possible, most likely, is the best route.

"Just wanted to know."

"Alright," she says with a smile, trusting the Doll at her word.

She finishes putting her groceries away and takes out a pot so she can start making her soup.

"DO you have friends I should keep an eye out for?"

[moonlitrequiem]

She almost says Hei's name, but lately he's undercover as, "Li Shunsheng," so she gives that name, instead. To be safe.

"And Mao." She's not sure either of them even count as friends, but they're her teammates, and if they showed up, she would want to know and be there for them. She doesn't mention Huang, but they haven't truly bonded in any fashion. Yet.

There is just one thing about Mao she doesn't mention - doesn't think to - that is kind of important; he's a cat.

"Mao," Lauri-Ell says with a bit of pleasure. She likes the sound of that name. "My sister's cat Chewie made a noise like that. She was a very good and brave beast."

Which wasn't relevant.

"I will watch for your friends as well."
