WELCOME TO ATERAT

Here is our Seventh Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

I. Crash Into Me

Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.

II. What Goes Bump in the Night

It looks like Aterat proper has a spirit problem. Maybe you're seeing specters, hearing disembodied voices, your windows rattle when there's no breeze outside. Maybe there are cold spots in your place of business (or your apartment, which is so much worse). Either way, you're 100% convinced you're haunted. Hopefully, someone else believes you, or maybe you're used to feeling crazy.

III. Into the MirrorVerse?

Through the looking glass in every apartment or other residence lies the MirrorVerse, a place of emotion. More information on this mysterious place can be found here.

IV. Try the Network

The Tell-Phone allows for text, video, and audio transmissions to everyone else who has one. Give it a whirl!

Questions.... Yin is careful as she follows the sound of the chair, clearly graceful with experience of finding her way around, that grace and her slim figure are likely why she doesn't knock anything over or run into anything in the process.

The noise is very helpful - she makes it to the chair and feels it carefully with her hands to figure out where the seat is, and positions herself there. Then she's very quiet.

Questions? She's not used to being treated as though she has autonomy. It confuses her. That confusion alone is a sign she's not thinking like a proper Doll.

But...she does have one, one large concern about all - Hei.

"Do others from our worlds show up here?"

"I have seen instances of it," Lauri-Ell says. "There is one other from my world here, but I do not know him well. But I do not know that it is very common."

There are plenty of people who don't have those connections.

"Are there those from your world that you need protection from?"

She shakes her head. No, Yin doesn't need protection from Hei. (She probably does need protection from the Syndicate, but she doesn't know that, not yet.) If anything, she feels something, maybe it is concern for his well-being? Muted as it is, it's hard to tell. Yin also can't just tell other people she works for an organization that sends the team she works for to assassinate people, or about the other people from her team.

But what they are? How should she refer to them? Say as little as possible, most likely, is the best route.

"Just wanted to know."

"Alright," she says with a smile, trusting the Doll at her word.

She finishes putting her groceries away and takes out a pot so she can start making her soup.

"DO you have friends I should keep an eye out for?"

She almost says Hei's name, but lately he's undercover as, "Li Shunsheng," so she gives that name, instead. To be safe.

"And Mao." She's not sure either of them even count as friends, but they're her teammates, and if they showed up, she would want to know and be there for them. She doesn't mention Huang, but they haven't truly bonded in any fashion. Yet.

There is just one thing about Mao she doesn't mention - doesn't think to - that is kind of important; he's a cat.

"Mao," Lauri-Ell says with a bit of pleasure. She likes the sound of that name. "My sister's cat Chewie made a noise like that. She was a very good and brave beast."

Which wasn't relevant.

"I will watch for your friends as well."

Yin says the next part with the same tone, her expression doesn't waver for a second from blank as she admits, "Mao is also a cat."

There's a beat, then she has to ask, albeit, slowly as the words form, "Is Chewie no longer good and brave?" She has noted Lauri-Ell used the word was. Relevant or not, Yin is curious.

Yin gives a quiet nod, appreciative that Lauri-Ell would help her like this. If any of them ever did show up, they would at least have a network in place. Maybe Hei would be okay with that.

Mao is a cat? Lauri-Ell brightens up in both her smile and her tone. She loved cats.

"I shall be very attentive for cats that are named Mao. And yes, she is good and brave, but she is not here. I cannot speak to whether she is still well behaved and brave. These things can change."

Finished with putting things away she turns to regard the other.

"Do you like salads?"

"He's a black cat. With a red collar and a bell." And likely won't talk to a complete stranger because he's supposed to just be a cat, but at least if Lauri-Ell knows what to look for, it can help.

Even if she doesn't speak her gratitude, Yin realizes that Lauri-Ell is very considerate to care about this.

She doesn't care one way or another about salads or most food, but it is the perfect food with nutrients while being light, so Yin nods to the question.

"That sounds cute," Lauri happens to smile. Though she was definitely the sort of person to talk to an animal, so who knew how that would go.

"Wonderful. I like a salad at this time."

Probably with Mao faking meows to not get found out.

"Salads are easy to put together." Look at Yin, volunteering words without curiosity or a question. In fact, she even asks, "Do you want help?"

"You are my guest. It is inappropriate to ask a guest to contribute to preparing a meal for them," Lauri-Ell insists as she gets to chopping.

"Oh," is all Yin can say to that one. She wasn't aware that was the case with guests. She might have a slither of not wanting to push Lauri-Ell to be rude, in that case.

Yin takes her seat and sits so still. She doesn't fidget, tag her fingers, or move her feet like some people. Her hands are folded neatly in her lap and her gaze is somewhere in front of her, though not focused.

"If you would like, you are welcome to explore my space at your own pace. I may have some decorations and plants, but your own will be laid out very similarly."

And that might help her adjust for later.

This almost seems to leave Yin confused. Explore? Her own pace? Did people normally do that?

It was a very considerate thing Lauri-Ell had offered her, and even Yin can recognize that. She gives a nod and slowly rises from the chair.

"Thank you," she gives a monotone response, but it's, maybe, just maybe, a tinge soft. She feels her way from the table, and her hands reach out to the wall to judge the distance between the table and the nearest wall. It helps her place the layout in correlation with herself, to walk without hitting anything.

Of course they did that. It would be wrong to explore at another person's pace. What if they were too fast for you? Or too slow? That was just unreasonable.

"I have not done much to redecorate the space here for myself, except for things on the walls or the shelves I was already given. I have made sure there is a lot or room between stuff compared to what you might find in your own space. I am larger than you by quite a bit."

In the mean time she kept up with her chopping, intending to give the young woman an anchor made of noise.

It's not a thing she's been told to do before, but as Lauri-Ell suggested it, she is giving it a shot.

Larger? Of course, Yin could not really tell that, either.

Yin reaches a window, hand planted firmly on the cool glass, then turns back to the sound of the chopping.

"I could not tell." There are some ways she can tell the sound of Lauri-Ell's voice comes from higher up, so Lauri-Ell is taller, but that doesn't inform her of much.

"Oh yes. I am larger than any human I have ever met," she admits. "Kree are often very large. Our soldiers at least. We are engineered that way."

"Engineered? You were not born?" Yin asks with her head slightly tilted. She even stops feeling around the room to look in Lauri-Ell's direction.

"I was cloned," she answers. But of course cloning is not quite what some people think of when they hear it. "Designed to be the ultimate warrior."

That sounds efficient, to Yin, anyway. With where she comes from, if they could do that to create the cold-blooded kills they call Contractors, she's sure they would.

"Who were you cloned from? What do you do as a warrior?"

"Two great Kree, one a scientist, one a warrior. My mother, I never knew her, but she was a great warrior and leader. My sister has told me much of her."

And she's very pleased to know.

"I was a soldier."

Yin's body seems to sag at that news, her shoulders droop, and she stares blankly for a second. Mother. That seems to affect her, even if in the slightest way. It breaks through the muted wall between Yin and her emotions.

"What is your sister like?"

Soldier. That still doesn't tell Yin much, but she's not sure what else to ask, either.

"A hero," Lauri-Ell smiles. "She flies and her hair is amazing and she is honorable."

Honorable in a way that great heroes should be. That their mother would be proud of, Lauri is given to understand.

"Hero," Yin repeats, giving that some thought.

"I don't know anyone like that."
