STOG

State of the Game: December

A cold snap seems to have gripped Aterat and it's environs throughout the beginning of the month, and by the 4th, a thick snow begins to fall, heavy continuously. Temperatures continue to fall through the proceeding week, and industrious residents may want to look to shoveling in an effort to keep the roads and sidewalks clear.

The trees that appeared last month have lost all their leaves and stand skeletal in the snow, icicles drooping from branches, and eves, and just about everything.

There seems, also, to be a rash of incidents involving missing items, swapped curtains, and curdled milk, but we'll get to that in a moment. First off, some OOC tidbits:

» The Test Drive is up, so invite your friends!
» Don't forget to get your activity check in!
» As always, if you see any broken or inaccurate links, let me know!

Event 1; Mischief is Afoot

Beginning on the 4th, as the snows begin to pile up, the days are becoming shorter, and everyone is treated to (or plagued by) a lot of snow and cold, things start...happening.

They're mischievous pranks at first: your keys seem to have gone missing, your milk is curdled, you can only fine your left shoes for all the pairs you own. Annoying, yes, but nothing life-threatening. That's how Midwinter mischief should be, right?

Things escalate quickly. What were mild pranks the first few days turn into dangerous situations a few days in to the snow and the strangeness: Maybe you're walking home only to narrowly avoid a heavy object being dropped from a balcony overhead, or the ground beneath you opens into a sinkhole as you're walking or riding. Looking around, you may even glimpse a small, giggling form disappearing into the snow. Was that a stocking cap and a billowy gray beard?

Event 2; A Hunt for Yule Lads

On the 9th, a strange transmission will be broadcast to all Tell Phones. It is full of static, and the voice is deep, deeper than any human throat could hope to create.

"The Lads are wrong and not mine. End them and leave proof on your doorstep or Ward your Residence against them. Trap them and leave them for me, and Krampus will reward you.

There are Thirteen."

There is no network ID and no way to respond.

OOC Info: The Yule Lads are thirteen gnomish creatures in colored stocking caps with bushy white beards. They have magical abilities that allow them to hinder pursuers, but they are also able to be avoided or tricked. They can teleport sort distances, make themselves invisible, conjure small items, and transmute substances to a degree (think turning a knife into a mockingbird or something like it). They are not typically together.

If any of them are ended (read 'killed'), captured, or residences or buildings are made secure from their entry by the 16th, things will go back to normal, relatively, though it will remain bitingly cold and the snow isn't going anywhere.

If characters were successful, on the night of the Christmas Eve, they will hear tinkling bells outside their door in the dead of night, and left there will be a present. Inside this present is something very specific and special from home. It could be nearly anything (with the caveat being it can't be an item unable to fit through their apartment door and can't break the game setting).

Event 3; A Winter's Ball

The 18th will herald a message from Halcyn, happy to see everyone survived the mischievous Yule Lads, and also happy to announce she'll be hosting a Midwinter's Ball at the Ballroom in the Noble district, for old times' sake.

She reminds everyone she'll be providing attire through the local seamstress (no pressure, Rhy), and that it is a formal masquerade ball.

OOC Info: There will be a log for the ball with specific information the week of!
