TEST DRIVE 001

Welcome to Aterat!

Here is our first ever Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

NOTE: While you do need an invite to apply to the game, you do NOT need one to tag or top level on the Test Drive!

A. Welcome to the Jungle

The URBAN jungle, that is. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.

B. We've Got Fun and Games

At least there's entertainment. In various parts of the city, there are street performers, slight of hand tricksters, and probably a game or two of poker in one tavern or another (there are several to be found, after all). Start up a game of darts, or just sit broodily in a corner and watch the others coming and going.

C. You can have anything you want but you better not take it for free

The Harbor District is a rough joint. There are pickpockets, swindlers, but also hardworking folk and more than a few buildings that seem to be locked. It sure would be a shame if someone were to go about performing some casual Breaking & Entering...you know, as long as you don't get caught. There are guards around, though not nearly as many here as in the other districts. It's almost as though they like to avoid the place. People talk about wererats in the shadows at night and it's not unheard of for the unaware to go missing when they're traveling around here after dark...

D. What's that smell?

As if being carted off to what looks like a city out of a video game weren't bad enough, there's an entire district to the northeast that seems to be walled off, warded, and in all ways inaccessible. According to the sign, it's the cemetery...and boy does it smell.

E. Speaking Crystal

You could always take a look at the instructions that came with your crystal and see who else is listening. Remember, though, these devices are Voice Only and cannot be filtered. If you speak, anyone with a crystal can and will hear you. Now, whether or not they choose to respond is another thing entirely.

Jake shoved his hands into his pockets while his mouth lifted into a stupid smile. It was childish but he liked winning fights... and sometimes picking fights too. It made him feel like he was a kid again and not entirely broken. "It's cool man. I got a job at a mechanic shop a block or so down that way. If you check it out they might know where you can get a bike."

He's okay with Nida never mentioning this again. Jacob didn't honestly think they'd run into each other again. He just did what he did and made his choices from moment to moment.

"I don't think they'll say no since the whole idea about rebuilding a city probably needs cars."

“And now I miss the shop I worked at in the last place. They let me work on my bike during hours. Can’t imagine yours will be the same,” Nida sighs, finger coming up to go through his hair. “How long you been here?”

Clearly the guy is more experienced at this particular world than Nida. Which marked him as likely here for a touch longer.

Jacob lifted his shoulders in a lazy shrug. "A few days. Just long enough to get a job." And blow all his money on a stranger but this was more comfortable. He didn't like having a lot of material possessions.

"I'm used to relocating. It wasn't to hard to get used to another city again." They were all the same to him though this one didn't have his sister nearby.

Well, a job is something Nida shall have to go and deal with now. But not yet. He needs... he needs some time to adjust. His fingers find the ring and he starts to twist at it. Look, new unthinking behavior. Thanks for that, he really didn't need it.

"Relocation tends to happen with places like this. I hope you get to go home to people you care about."

Jake shook his head. "It's fine." He didn't mean to sound dismissive, just that things worse than this have happened before. At least this time no one was killed while he was being kidnapped. It was a plus.

"They'll eventually find me. Until then I'm going to live here. I miss my sister but that's about it and I know I'll eventually see her again." He wasn't in a rush to leave or to stay. He was just living each day as it came.

"It also looks like they want people to take over some of the business fronts here. That isn't my thing but I bet you could take over the mechanic shop if you wanted too."

Take over? Nida had to bite his lip to keep from laughing.

"I'm not a leader. Too much attention."

Says the guy in weird clothes with magic running in his veins.

"Besides, managing other people is a life skill I never got taught."

Worse than that, he's pretty sure that if he tried, something would go wrong. Was that fatalistic of him? Perhaps. But he took it as given anyway.

"Same." Jacob rubbed the back of his head as if this made him uncomfortable to admit. He really didn't like being the center of any attention.

"Er. I need to buy some food for dinner tonight. Not to just leave you here, you can come with but I don't want the shops to close and I'm not sure when that is." He also wanted to eat that night and had absolutely nothing in his ice box.

[OOC: Thanks, he hates it.]

Still Nida's hand worked at the ring he now wore. How was it so soothing to have the thing? He didn't know. But touching it made him feel... warmer inside.

"I'd offer to help, but if there's one thing I've learned through two worlds before this and my own before that, it's that having me cook on anything short of a camp fire is a recipe for disaster. Guess it's stall food for me."

Because really, he doesn't trust himself with a tavern.

Jacob grinned. "Same but they have tomato's, cheese, bread and meat. So I'm making a weird ass pizza." It wasn't going to be pizza because making actual pizza dough was difficult but it would be close and delicious.

It was lucky that Jake wasn't too picky about the food he ate.

"Not sure I know how to cook anything else... without a microwave." He missed hot pockets.

Pizza. Damn... Nida missed Pizza. How silly was that? Yeah, jealousy, thy name is Nida.

"Do they have bagels? I had a friend tell me once that one of the best things you can do is make a bagel pizza. He never explained how it worked, but hey, there you have it."

What? He's an idea guy. Okay, so maybe he isn't, but he can offer that much in thanks. A memory of someone he loved in return for ensuring he remembers them.

"Not sure. I'll be on the lookout for bagels." Jacob likes the idea of pizza bagel's. It reminds him of those crappy bagel bites he used to buy for Sunday football games. His sister hated the way they smelled but he definitely remembers waving them in her face like an annoying little brother.

"If I can figure it out I'll teach you how to make it too or write... instructions? I don't know but then you can have pizza whenever."

He still didn't believe that he'd see Nida again but he'd write a how-to or something... then the guy could have pizza too. Really, Jacob didn't think that far ahead. He was just amiable and easy going when it came to talking to people.

"You are a very strange and considerate man," Nida notes, shaking his head. And finally there is a brief flicker of a smile on his face. Brief, fleeting, but ultimately sad. "I think you remind me of someone. I just... I can't place who."

That is something he'll have to carry with him, though.

"Good luck in your hunt for pizza. May it be tasty and the sauce properly seasoned I guess."

Jacob shrugged. "I'll just take that as a compliment." Mostly because he didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. It looked like it might be a little bit of both both...

"Yeah." He stood awkwardly for a second before adding. "Take care of yourself man."

That was some sort of goodbye, so Jacob turned and began to look for the food items that could combine into that of a pizza.
