Welcome to Aterat!

Here is our second Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

A. Free-Fallin'

Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.

B. For the Benefit of Mr. Kite there will be a show tonight on trampolines

Just to the north of the market district, a small carnival has been set up in a square. As the sun sets, the stalls around it come alive with callers, carnival games, roasted meats are available as well as sweet treats. The games have prizes, stuffed animals and the like, and there are musicians. It's almost as though it's all in celebration of something, but what is anyone's guess. You're welcome to attend and see what's what, and any performers among the gathered are welcome to take part. The whole affair is very mirthful and fluid.

C. Delve Down into the Dark and Deep

If you're a more adventurous type, why not see what all the fuss is about in the sewers, or, if heroics are more your style, maybe look into why people seem to think it's fine to have monsters living just under their feet. Or just use the opportunity to keep your skills sharp. The sewers are pretty vast, after all.

“How will justice be served if I am there to manage it?”

She was the highest form of judgement that was not held by the throne itself. It was to her that the responsibility fell for helping keep the peace within the empire itself. And it was quite the empire, still learning how to live with itself.

None of this was easy.

“My Emperor is so young, and so new to the throne. And I fear that the dangers leveled against him shall be great.”

Blue eyes blinked at his companion and he shook his head. "You are not the only one that must serve justice and are not home to do so." And with saying that he had to make sure that he didn't crush the cup in his hand. But the King of Heliodor had said something..

"I understand, as I too have a young charge back home to protect." He was only slightly important to do the whole save the world from darkness thing, no big.

"But I had overheard that time stops back where we are from. I need to find out somehow if those rumours are indeed true."

“I cannot believe so easily that whatever this world is can stop time there. The Prince-Consort might well sense that and alter it back. And then they would not have me.”

No, this place seems a little too hard to believe.

“Your charge is also young?”

Hendrik nodded. "Correct. Rumours are just that until I have solid evidence of things being otherwise." It bothered him a lot, so he just finished the apple juice that he had and felt it satisfyingly crunch in his gloved hand. He wasn't sure if time was somehow stopped on the other side of things and all, it wouldn't make any sense. But would they be able to alter that on their side? These were things that went through his head for a few moments.

Turning to look at the other soldier the knight sighed. "Yes. He is just a man by our standards but he is tasked with an important mission and I was there by his side to help him."

Obviously that's changed.

“What sort of mission?”

If she understands the mission of this man, then perhaps she’ll understand this one who follows the man better. After all, she could be measured by her loyalty to the Emperor.

Tossing the crushed cup into a garbage container, Hendrik turned back, pondering whether or not he should say. But in the end he decided honesty was best. "He was tasked with defeating the Lord of Shadows. And I was tasked with his protection."

It was really a self oath but nudged by the King of Heliodor and he naturally took his oath seriously and would adhere to it with his iron will.

Oh yes, that is very important work. Lauri-ELL believes in it. Very good. It sounds like a very important thing, actually.

“I wish you luck,” she says, her voice soft. “I wish you the best of all things. I hope you succeed.”

"As I would wish the same for you on your quest." Hendrik said. The tone was the usual seriousness but there was sincerity in it. He understood all too well the needing to get back home and there being far more important things to do than to sit around and talk. Action was needed but for the moment nothing could be done until he could locate the Aspects again or whatever they were called.

Priests back home could be found everywhere but they weren't in abundance here for some reason. And that troubled him too. Where were their faithful?

With a sigh the woman squeezes at her fake animals. She just wants to have the comfort of them.

“I wish I was home. I have duties and I don’t know how to do all of this, being here, doing nothing.”

Hendrik nodded, wishing he could get her back to wherever she needed to be and he needed to return to the Luminary's side. But it was hard to know who to talk to other than the Lady he'd first run into.

"I will go see if I cannot find someone to locate the Lady I first spoke to when I arrived. If she is nowhere to be found, I must continue to ask around to find out how we go back to whence we came."

Doing nothing was not something Hendrik was good at. He could sit still and read or train or something, but lying idle wasn't in his knightly code.

“Thank you,” Lauri-Ell says. “I shall have to find a place for all of these fake-animals. I do not suppose you would like some.”

Please. She has so very many.

He looked at the animals in question. Would it offend her if he declined? Besides, Veronica or Princess Jade weren't here to take them so what would he personally do with them? But then he thought he had wondered earlier what would go into the living quarters that he somehow found that he had now.

So finally he nodded. "I will take a few, but should you ever wish them to return to you, let me know and I shall return them."

What an interesting proposal. But she accepts the agreement with a smile and a nod. While she doesn't intend to give him many, she does select one. There is clearly careful consideration before she chooses a big gray creature with large ears and a long nose.

An elephant. She lacks a word for it.

"What about this. It looks dependable and solid. Like you."

The creature selected and given to him was nothing like he had ever seen. What manner of animal was it? The ears were big and fascinating and was that its nose that was long? Feeling somewhat like a child while holding onto it, blue eyes inspected it. Brown gloves turned it over and over until he heard Lauri-Ell's explanation behind the gift.

Holding it in one hand, one of those brown gloves reached for his mouth and the knight coughed self consciously. But he fought to focus even if inwardly he was very pleased.

"Then it is very fitting. But..I am afraid that I do not know what sort of..creature this is for the comparison."

"Neither do I," Lauri-Ell admits with a wide smile. But she has made her decision. It is his.

"I am glad this is agreed to. Be good to each other."

"I see." Really Hendrik didn't, but it seemed the matter as to who it belonged to had been settled, at least for now. This was the first time he'd seen the lady smile that he could recall and he would certainly hold onto the creature, for the lady's sake of course.

The knight was about to let the matter drop when he had another thought. "I have one question. Does this..creature bear a name?" Did they require names? He had no idea.

Should it have a name? Oh no, she's distressed again.

"The vendor did not provide one to me!"

"It is of no consequence if it did not come with a name." Hendrik was more than sure he would come to think of one in time. "If I can get someone to tell me what it is, then mayhaps a name will accompany it." He wasn't sure it was knightly to be seen carrying..well a toy but maybe some of the people here were familiar with this creature and could tell him a story or two so that he could decide on a name.

“I wish you luck. I would not know if it even exists.”

Perhaps it is a fantasy character, for children.

That was a point he hadn't considered. But while he couldn't see himself really asking, holding onto it might incur a conversation. His own interactions with children were..not always so friendly and small children might run. But he had to do his due diligence and find out.

"Luck will not be needed if someone knows what it is. But I intend to find out."

His blue eyes looked her over. "But you will be alright here on your own while I find out?"

Well intending to find out was something that Lauri-Ell could understand, quite easily. In fact, she nodded her approval.

"I will be fine. Thank you for your concern."

"I will be back as soon as I can with my report. And I thank you for your generosity and kindness."

With that he turned and left.

Well, with that done she has nothing to do but consider the music and dancers. What a strange place and strange turn of events.
