Welcome to Aterat!

Here is our second Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

A. Free-Fallin'

Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.

B. For the Benefit of Mr. Kite there will be a show tonight on trampolines

Just to the north of the market district, a small carnival has been set up in a square. As the sun sets, the stalls around it come alive with callers, carnival games, roasted meats are available as well as sweet treats. The games have prizes, stuffed animals and the like, and there are musicians. It's almost as though it's all in celebration of something, but what is anyone's guess. You're welcome to attend and see what's what, and any performers among the gathered are welcome to take part. The whole affair is very mirthful and fluid.

C. Delve Down into the Dark and Deep

If you're a more adventurous type, why not see what all the fuss is about in the sewers, or, if heroics are more your style, maybe look into why people seem to think it's fine to have monsters living just under their feet. Or just use the opportunity to keep your skills sharp. The sewers are pretty vast, after all.

[It's not like Nida to pay too much attention to the people in the streets here, but since he started his work as a guard, and this was hit casual patrol on the days he wasn't out dealing with Kobolds, well... he has a reason to people watch. Today he's doing it by leaning up against the support pole of a fruit stall, a merchant that knows Nida well and knows he'll buy apples during his watch if the guy lets him linger now and then in the shade.

Basically, he's in the right place at the right time to notice someone who is so clearly out of place. They're a common enough sort around here, and Nida mostly just watches to make sure the guy doesn't get robbed.

Except... well, those eyes are so sharp. Interesting. So Nida slides his knife into the belt at his side, wraps his apple in a handkerchief, and tucks it into his pocket. Only then does he approach the man.]

Let me go out on a limb and guess that you're new.

[ Huaisang looks for the source of the voice when he's spoken to and he bows quickly before nodding. ]

I guess that I am. I don't really know...

[ It trails off because there's a lot of things he doesn't really know at the moment. He gives the man a small smile. He doesn't feel like smiling but at least distracting himself with shopping through the market had alleviated some of the weight on him. ]

No one knows a lot of things when they first arrive. It's okay. I'm with the city guard. You can ask what you need and I'll do my best to help.

[Which doesn't mean he CAN help. Just that he will try.]

I was told a lot of things but I feel like I still don't know anything. I feel lost.

[ He's clever and it's not that he didn't understand what he'd been told just that so much is hard to fathom especially all at once and then all the added input from the market. ]

Just ask. Maybe I can help out. I've been here for a while. I'm a... foreigner to this place, just like you. If nothing else, I can offer some insight.

[ Huaisang hedges a moment, trying to form the most important questions but he does appreciate that the other is willing to assist him. He studies him, searching for any signs of insincerity or deception but not readily finding them. ]

There really is no way to return home?

[ It's a useless question, really. ]

[Ah.]

I’ve never found a way to return of my own will. Not here, not in another world. But there are always those who seem to leave. I assume they go home. Or to another world like this.
