Welcome to Aterat!

Here is our forth Test Drive Meme! There are a lot of areas of the city to explore, so please have a look around! In case you need a little help getting started, I've included a few prompts below, or feel free to start your own! Exploration and player initiative are the names of the game here!

A. Crash into Me

Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.

B. A Winter's Ball

What brand new ballroom would be complete without a fancy new winter's ball to break it in? Things are a little strange at the ballroom (check the prompts) with mistletoe that traps you for a kiss with a random passerby, strange gray meringue that makes you willing to overshare, not to mention the fact that one of your strange possible overlords funded the whole thing. What's the worst that could happen?

C. We're all hanging out at the park, right?

The park near the Complex has become a glittering expanse of show! Children and adults alike build snowmen and even sled down some of the higher hills in the area. There are stands around the park selling hot chocolate, coffee, tea, and cider, as well as sweets and wrapped snacks for the day in the park. Speckling the park at regular intervals are standing fire pits designed to ward away the cold and allow for gatherings and conversation.

The pond in the park has frozen over as well, affording the abilities to ice skate as the ever-industrious Raimon is renting skates, and maybe even challenge people to a hockey game. How hard could it be to find some makeshift pucks and other accoutrements in order to play a game?

"Not once." Noah accepts the help getting to their feet. They weigh about half what it looks like they should, which already isn't a lot, so helping them up is an easy thing.

"You're so good at this! Every time I think I have the hang of it, I move my center of balance a little too much and fall over again. I never thought just standing up could be this challenging!" At least they seem to be having fun.

He takes note of how light they are, but he doesn't comment on it. He has a bit of help in the strength department regardless so he doesn't really think much of it.

"I grew up ice skating." Which wasn't a lie, even if he did have some supernatural assistance. "It's not much different from walking, right? It's basically just falling and catching yourself with the other foot." He helps them steady themselves but doesn't move away from them in case they need a hand again.

"I'm Thomas, by the way."

"It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Noah." They turn to face Thomas, almost falling over again in the process. That's improvement!

"The physics of movement on a low-friction surface are so much more complex than I was expecting. It's a lot of fun!"

"Uh, yeah. I think this is the part where I confess to cheating my way through Physics class." He smiles, though, letting Noah figure it out, but staying close enough that if they end up needing his aid again, they'll have it.

"That's what the blades are for. Use the grooves they cut to keep your balance."

"That's the idea, but the tricky part seems to be building up enough momentum to-- wah!"

Having started a bit too fast, Noah once again slips and falls onto the ice. At least they seem like they're having fun?

He can't help but laugh at their predicament, but he moves over to their side, reaching down and offering them a hand once again to right them on their feet.

"Tell you what, Noah. Give me your hands and I'll show you a thing or two." He'll proceed to give them pointers, remains very patient, as though he's done this thing with a someone younger before, a sibling perhaps.

"Oh, sure! Lead the way."

Despite how much they were falling on their own, Noah proves to be quite a fast learner with proper instruction. From that much physical contact, it quickly becomes evident that they aren't exactly human - the weight, elasticity, and texture of their body are all slightly off. Artificial, even.
