sotg: July/August
The weather is warm, rain is unpredictable, and the Academy has been liberated! I know I promised a log and I fell through on that, but I have an idea!
For Those Who Were Part of Teams: In the thread below, feel free to handwave how the trip into various areas went. In general, while there were monsters, there was nothing too life-threatening except for the shadow dogs inhabiting the room in the basement where the Voidcryst shard had detonated and had been sealed for safety. That battle required coordination, and you're welcome to talk out how that went :)
That being said, now that the Academy has been cleaned out of all the monstrous riffraff (at least for the most part), it's free for the exploration! Gracie was gracious enough to draw us a map of the complex, color-coded for convenience, and you are always welcome to PM the mod account if you'd like to explore specific areas and learn what you might find there. Note: there is not a dedicated area section for it in the game description yet, but I will have it added soon.
And for a bit of OOC information, the following pages have been updated and/or added:
» Current Test Drive is up, so invite your friends!
» Don't forget to get your activity check in!
» Raimon's Curio Shop has been rebranded as a general Bonus Activity Point post! All points are now cumulated by Player rather than by Character. » All pages should be up to date (but if I've missed something, please let me know!)
The heat really does begin to get oppressive near the middle of July, with temperatures in the high 90s to 100s. The intermittent are far too sporadic to do anything but make the air more oppressive with all the humidity their five minute showers drop over the already sweltering city.
Relief reveals itself in a new discovery: a stretch of sandy beach has been revealed (or just appeared, as locals don't seem too surprised) outside the city walls to the south! Not only is it an ideal place to snuggle under an umbrella with a wide-brimmed hat and a good book, or to cool off in the waves. This fifty mile stretch of beach is host to a cluster of bungalows near its northern border, within sight of the harbor on a clear day, and huddled around them are small shops, little restaurants and food kiosks, and anything else you might expect to find on a boardwalk.
Looking for a place to host a picnic on the beach? There is a fantastic pavilion overlooking the water as well, complete with benches and tables and four outdoor grills for anyone who wants to man the coals.
Enjoy the beach and all its accommodations, everyone! Oh, and try to ignore the rumors milling around the various shops. Who ever hear of a shark that swims through sand, anyway? Venture too far south, and you might find out. The rumors do say the 15 foot sand sharks are native to the shoreline in and near the forest far to the south, after all. It should be safe if you don't get too close.
If you do, and you happen to visit during high tide, well, you may see fins in the water, or the sand. They're ambush predators, but with the rock outcroppings that border the forest and its beaches, you should be able to evade them. They might be able to swim in the sand, but they can't bore through rock. Thank goodness, right?
