Welcome to Aterat!

A. Crash into Me

Not exactly, but close enough. You have just arrived and received a strange satchel from a tiny, strange little man and are left more or less to your own devices (more information on what to expect upon arrival can be found here)! Follow directions to the north and check out the housing, or maybe have a look around the Historium and try to get some information from that giant glowing ball, see what you can waste your meager starter coin on in the Market District, or maybe just meet the neighbors.

B. A Winter's Ball

What brand new ballroom would be complete without a fancy new winter's ball to break it in? Things are a little strange at the ballroom (check the prompts) with mistletoe that traps you for a kiss with a random passerby, strange gray meringue that makes you willing to overshare, not to mention the fact that one of your strange possible overlords funded the whole thing. What's the worst that could happen?

C. We're all hanging out at the park, right?

The park near the Complex has become a glittering expanse of show! Children ~~and adults alike~~ build snowmen and even sled down some of the higher hills in the area. There are stands around the park selling hot chocolate, coffee, tea, and cider, as well as sweets and wrapped snacks for the day in the park. Speckling the park at regular intervals are standing fire pits designed to ward away the cold and allow for gatherings and conversation.

The pond in the park has frozen over as well, affording the abilities to ice skate as the ever-industrious Raimon is renting skates, and maybe even challenge people to a hockey game. How hard could it be to find some makeshift pucks and other accoutrements in order to play a game?

[He watched Tommy go before he took care of getting an order of 'the catch of the day' for them both before moving over to the table to sit with his usual slouch.]

There now, while we wait... Is there anything I might not have covered that you wanted to know about?

[Wow man, don't slouch. Not good for you.]

Yeah. How likely is it that this place is actively trying to kill us?

[It’s a bad habit, but not his worst, so he’ll continue to slouch.]

In the couple of months that I’ve been here, I haven’t found any evidence of that being some sort of end goal. There have been some unfortunate situations thanks to the Aspects...

Some kind of nightmare-demonic bear came through the portal they broke according to one person I spoke to, and then there was the hoard of angry spirits that they were keeping as... a directory in the historium that broke free. So, uh- stuff like that?

Oh man, not angry spirits again. That shit was messed up enough in the Sphere.

[He wants to bang his head into the table. He doesn't.]

Okay, next, we buy everything here, right? But you said housing is provided?"

Afraid so. I missed the ones at the sphere though...

[He supposed that meant he had been due for it here, but he moved on to the next question quickly enough.]

Yes, there should be a key in that satchel Raimon would have giving you when you arrived. There are four apartment buildings, everyone has their own unit pre-assigned to them. We seem to be allowed to move freely between them as we please, though.

[Move around freely? Tommy grinned.]

Shacking up with the husband?

Well- They don't seem to have taken people wanting to live together into account when they started bringing us here...? And we were hardly going to live separately just because this world decided to assign us living spaces!

[And unless someone put up a fuss, he was happy to continue to do so. Llewellyn had his fill of people having a say in who stayed with him and who he slept with to last a lifetime in his own world.]

Have you talked to these powers about cohabitation? Maybe they are nice.

I keep meaning to, but the first opportunity I had was when one of them was reporting that they accidentally destroyed something. I got rather preoccupied, and it slipped my mind- though I’m not sure that Athony would be interested in that particular conversation. He’s a bit serious, to the point... I haven’t had an opportunity to see what Lady Halcyn is like yet, though.

Tell me about them. If I'm going to get on their bad side, I need to know what they are like.

They both seem more than a little lost... They do their best to correct things if a problem is apparent, but it seems to rarely go well. There was supposedly another… A creator that started all this that left. So they’re probably managing something on their own that they weren’t meant to.

[So... Llewellyn got annoyed with them, but it was hard to not feel for them on that subject.]

Halcyn seems to be the more approachable one, at least from how she's been described. They seem like complete opposites of each other? Athony, serious and somewhat imposing... Halcyn, warmer and more sociable.

The opposite of serious is goofy and playful. So they're not that different.

[He's taking mental notes, trust him.]

Perhaps, but there's a different energy between them? You'll uh- need to talk to them to see what I mean, I think. [He continued to talk as food was brought over and sat down in front of them, only pausing for a moment to thank them for it.] He... did make a vague comment to me about seeing how his abilities worked if I ran afoul of anything here.

Wait, was that a threat?

[He's not okay with that.]

[Llewellyn supposed it could have been, he had been being nosey and pushing a little... But he shook his head; he didn't think so.] I don't believe so, at least I hope not. I uh- think that he simply didn't want to be more specific with his explanations.

So evasive power houses that don't know what they're doing are fucking with our lives?

That about sums it up, I'm afraid. That and they're looking for our help with rebuilding the world that ended under unknown circumstances. I've been trying to learn more about that but even those who were presumably here from the apocalyptic event don't remember.

How is it we keep getting in places that are trying to rebuild? Just let me land somewhere with cheap and quick street food.

Luck, I'd guess. [The bad sort, he supposed. Still, felt better than being in his world in some ways and definitely better than the Sphere.] The street food costs money, but it's pretty good. There's a circus complex that has a lot to choose from for different snacks too.

I don't care if it's good or that it costs. I just want it cheap and heaping.

[Tommy could support himself on the sort of funds he coudl make back home. Here, he was probably going to need two or three jobs.

Honestly, that might be something worth bringing up... If they are going to bring people here and expect them to contribute, they should have what they need. [Because Tommy's need to steady calories could get risky for him, and that really was a bit unfair at the end of the day.] Until then, we'll have to make some arrangements. What kind of work do you think you'd like to try? I could always put a word in for you at the office I'm working out of, or at the flower shop.

I don't even know. I doubt I can make enough as a courier. I'll have to take up more.

[He'll have to figure out just what he can do at speed to make more money.]

Courier isn't a bad place to start though? I can't think of seeing anyone run deliveries around the city, so there might be a bigger demand for it than you think. A few of the business that are out of the way and on the outskirts of the city usually have to send someone to pick things up, I think?

Yeah but just because you don't see delivery people doesn't mean the aren't around. What if I did that and was taking food out of other people's mouths?

I admit, you’ve made a good point there… But it’s something to start with. I’ll help ask around if you like. Even if there is, maybe they need help from someone who can make speedier deliveries, hm?

[Llewellyn was, as usual, determined to make sure a friend in need was going to be alright.]

There are a few businesses that are hiring right now as well, you can see if any of them seem like something you could do… Oh- and a notice board where a lot of requests tend to go up.

[Humming a little, he rubbed his cheek lightly as he tried to pull forth a few more ideas.]

Maybe even a job that would give you access to food through the day, even if it’s just at a discounted price.
